The Jones & Haywood School of Ballet (Now the Jones and Haywood School of Dance) was founded in 1941, under the direction of Doris Jones and Claire Haywood, and eventually gained larger historical prominence in concert dance by becoming a ‘dance-feeder institution’ for Dance Theatre of Harlem and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.
